Panaji, January 6, 2026 – In a significant show of unity, Goa’s opposition MLAs met on Tuesday to finalize a coordinated strategy to challenge the ruling BJP government on multiple fronts. The alliance aims to confront issues ranging from economic mismanagement and illegal land conversion to a recent mass killing at a nightclub that has shaken the state.

The meeting was attended by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and MLAs Vijai Sardesai, Adv. Carlos Ferreira, Altone D’Costa, Viresh Borkar, and Venzy Viegas.

LoP Yuri Alemao stated that the opposition has devised a plan to effectively corner the government in the upcoming assembly session. “Despite having 33 MLAs, this government will fail in the assembly due to our strategy,” he asserted.

Alemao highlighted tourism—once the economic backbone after the suspension of mining—as a sector severely damaged by government policies. “This government has broken that backbone. It borrows loans even to pay salaries,” he said.

The opposition also pledged to raise public anger over alleged illegal land conversions, unemployment, and environmental degradation. “Through land conversions and illegal mega projects, the BJP has sold Goa to crony capitalists,” Alemao added.

The recent nightclub tragedy was also cited as a key issue for which the government must answer.
