Panaji : The Goa State Civil Services Badminton Tournament, organized by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs (DSYA), concluded successfully at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Campal, on Friday. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from government employees across various departments, promoting fitness, camaraderie, and sportsmanship among civil servants.

Dr. Ajay Gaude, Director of DSYA, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of promoting sports and healthy lifestyles among government employees. He reiterated the department’s commitment to encouraging sporting activities and fostering a culture of wellness within the civil services.

The tournament featured intense competition across multiple categories. In the Open Men’s Singles, Dr. Ankush Patil from Goa Medical College emerged victorious, defeating Akil Shetye from the Directorate of Accounts. Dr. Patil also clinched the Men’s Singles 40+ title, overcoming Amey Miringkar in the final.

The women’s categories saw impressive performances, with Dorothy Alphonso winning the Women’s Singles Open, while Dr. Sushama Dessai triumphed in the Women’s Singles 40+ category. Marina Albuquerque dominated the Women’s Singles 50+ event.

In doubles competitions, the PWD duo of Nitin Mayekar and Umesh Naik claimed the Open Men’s Doubles title. The Electricity Department’s Dipesh Mithari and Akshata Mulgaonkar won the Mixed Doubles Open category.

Special categories for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) were also held, with Alisha Mapari winning the Women’s Standing category and Gopal Kunkalekar securing the Men’s Standing title. Vishant Nagvekar emerged victorious in the Wheelchair category.

The event was attended by Dr. Ajay Gaude, Dr. Vivek Pawar, Deputy Director of DSYA, and other dignitaries and officials.
