Benaulim, Goa: St Anthony SC Assolda emerged victorious in the 20th Super Soccer Tournament, clinching the coveted title with a gritty 1-0 victory over PVC Parra in a thrilling final. The summit clash, organized by the United Club of Benaulim, took place at the St. John the Baptist Panchayat Ground in front of a large and boisterous Sunday crowd.
The final lived up to its billing, with both teams showcasing quality football from the first whistle. Assolda started brightly, but Parra soon found their footing and nearly broke the deadlock in the 10th minute. Joston Cardoso was sent clean through on goal, but squandered the golden opportunity, a miss that would prove costly.

Assolda made Parra pay for that lapse in concentration in the 26th minute. A pinpoint cross into the box was met by Aizan Sheikh, who rose highest to power a superb header into the net, sending his side into the lead. The solitary goal separated the teams at the halftime interval.
The second half saw Parra emerge with renewed vigor and intent. They dominated possession and laid siege to the Assolda goal in search of the equalizer. Vernon Pereira was a constant threat, tirelessly spearheading the Parra attacks. However, a lack of support in the final third prevented them from converting their dominance into goals.
At the other end, Assolda’s defense proved impenetrable, marshalled superbly by Milton Clemente, who stood resolute under relentless pressure. Goalkeeper Oswin was the hero for Assolda, producing a series of outstanding saves to deny Parra’s forwards time and again. Despite a late and desperate surge from Parra, Assolda held firm to cap off an outstanding tournament campaign with a championship-winning performance.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Cpt Venzy Viegas, MLA of Benaulim constituency. He was joined by Guest of Honour Fr Xavier Estebeiro, Parish Priest of St John the Baptist Church, and Sarpanch Glyda Rodrigues, along with other esteemed dignitaries.
