Salcete, Goa – The Food Safety Department carried out a pre-monsoon inspection drive in the Ramdamol area of Salcete. Officials checked 43 food businesses, including hawkers, restaurants, and fast-food joints.

During the drive, 34 establishments were found running without a valid Food Safety License or Registration. They were issued notices under Section 31 of the FSS Act, 2006. Also, 12 shops were fined under the COTPA Act for not displaying the mandatory “No Smoking” board. A total penalty of ₹2,400 was collected.

Food business owners were given five days to fix the issues and follow safety rules. Officials told them not to use newspapers for packing or serving food. They were also advised to dispose of used cooking oil only through authorized RUCO agencies.

The inspection was done under the guidance of Designated Officer, South Goa Sanjyot Kudalkar. The team included Senior Food Safety Officer Priya Desai, Madhav Kavlekar, and Food Safety Officers Zenia Rosario, Pradiksha Chopdekar, and Amardeep Gaude. The department has warned of stricter action if rules are not followed.
